Shuker & Mathewson Finalists at the 2022 Cajun Classic

Shuker and Mathewson were bidding for their third title of the season so far but came up short against top seeds Diede de Groot and Aniek van Koot 7-5, 6-3.

The British star has risen back up to her career high ranking of World No.5 this season and continued her singles form with wins over Maria Florencia Moreno and Zhenzhen Zhu at the Cajun Classic Super Series. In the final four, Shuker faced Dutch star van Koot who came out on top 6-4, 6-2.

Teaming up for their fourth successive tournament together, Shuker and Mathewson were the second seeds. In the quarter-final the Brit/American duo faced Columbia's Angelica Bernal and Japan's Shiori Funamizu. The Columbian/Japanese were totally outclassed by Shuker & Mathewson. The seeds broke at will as they dominated the match and took the victory 6-1, 6-1.

The semi-final saw Shuker & Mathewson face the all South American pairing of Macarena Cabrillana & Maria Florencia Moreno. Again, they dominated the first set and although the second set was a bit closer, Shuker & Mathewson secured the vital break of serve to move into the final in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.

In the final Shuker & Mathewson faced up against the top seeds and Paralympic Gold Medallists, Diede De Groot & Aniek Van Koot. Staying toe to toe in the first set it looked to be heading to a tiebreak, however, the top seeds broke serve right at the end of the set and took the lead. Shuker and Mathewson fought hard again in the second set but unfortunately, it was not to be, as the top seeds secured victory 7-5, 6-3.
