A Life-Changing Moment

At just 21 years old, shortly after completing her final year of university, Lucy’s life took an unexpected turn. A serious motorbike accident left her paralysed from the chest down (T4 vertebrae), altering her future in an instant. What could have been the end of her athletic ambitions became the beginning of an extraordinary new chapter—one defined by resilience, determination, and a refusal to be limited by circumstance.

Discovering Wheelchair Tennis

During her rehabilitation, Lucy was introduced to wheelchair tennis after meeting Paralympic Quad Wheelchair Legend Pete Norfolk. Inspired by his achievements and encouragement, she picked up a racket for the first time and quickly fell in love with the sport. What began as a new challenge soon became a driving passion, setting Lucy on a path to compete at the highest levels of international wheelchair tennis.

Representing Great Britain on the world stage was a defining moment and one that affirmed her place among the sport’s elite. Competing against the best in the world, Lucy realised she not only belonged there, but had the potential to go even further. It was the moment her Paralympic dream truly took flight.

Reaching New Heights in Tokyo

At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games—delayed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and held without supporters in the stands—Lucy and Jordanne reached a historic milestone by making it all the way to the women’s doubles final. Despite the unique challenges of competing in such an unusual environment, their incredible journey culminated in winning a silver medal, the highest Paralympic achievement of any British Women's wheelchair tennis player to date.
